Home made cat food

There are many opinions about what is the correct way to feed a cat. Of course almost all of them are opposite to each other. I don’t claim that what I do is perfect for my cats. How to feed your cat is your own decision. I only can share some of my experience. The main thing to remember regardless the type of food that you feed your cat is that cats are predators. Naturally they eat meat. Most of the time outdoor cats eat whole mice or small birds.

It is very important to insure a variety of foods for your cat. Feeding with one food over and over again can lead to harmful deficiencies of certain essential vitamins.
In other hand it is good to know, what are the foods inappropriate for cats.

Foods to avoid:
  • Chocolate
  • Onions
  • Raw pork
  • Raw fish
  • Raw eggs
  • Tuna fish

Also don’t use spice when making pet foods. All kind of spices are unfit or even harmful for cats. Keep in mind that home made food needs to be kept in a refrigerator.
My cats love roasted or boiled chicken meat. Also they love boiled eggs and sometimes the even eat raw vegetables. Be careful when using chicken meat with bones, kittens under the age of 6-8 months can’t handle the bones. Roasted fish is a valuable delicacy but no more than twice a week. The meat can be cooked together with some rice and vegetables. Cats are not humans, they don’t need complex recipes.

One other way for feeding cats is the raw diet - BARF. I haven’t tried it and I am not sure if it is good for the cat health. If you want to know more about it I recommend starting from Wikipedia - Barf Diet.

They love, but it depend on the type of fish. Fresh water fish from fish farm is often feed with dead animals and can cause diseases. Ocean fish has some kind of worms, I am not sure what exactly. The same is for the pork meat. I just prefer to cook it.

Kattefoder, canned food can be dangerous and even deadly. Search the web for more information.

And if you talk about canned pet food - there is not much fish in there. Something like 4-8%.
